When a couple has a wedding to plan there are so many details to take into account. The décor, cake, guest list, wedding gown, flowers, venue, PHOTOGRAPHER *wink*, and the list goes on…. So much thought and time go into planning a wedding. It is likely the biggest event that a person will ever plan and it all comes down to one day.
The one piece of advice that I always give my couples is to enjoy their wedding day. Of course the plans and details are important, but they can also distract a couple from the natural beauty of their day; the moments that aren’t planned. If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say “Enjoy the day because it goes by so quickly..” well let’s just say I’d probably be doing weddings for free by now *lol*. But it is SO true, the day truly does zip by. One minute you’re laying in bed, realizing that today is THE day and the next you’re back in bed with sore feet and the extra weight of a ring on your finger. I want MORE for my couples than that. I want them to go to bed, feeling like the day didn’t zip by them. I want them to remember the tiny moments as well as the big ones. I want them to feel like they LIVED their wedding day and didn’t just get caught up in a tidal wave of the day’s events. I want them to look back and remember being present for the very reason they ended up having this big day at all….their husband or wife.
I love this photo of Jen & Dan because it is exactly what I am talking about. In this moment, the flowers, food or dress didn’t matter. All that mattered was that they did it – they got married and more importantly, they married the person they couldn’t live without. This is the kind of moment Jen & Dan will remember forever. When I look at this photo, I can’t help but think that this was the part of their day when time stood still. It was a shared moment when they didn’t let the craziness of the day monopolize their own experience of it. As their guests danced the night away…they shared the biggest gift anyone could give to their husband or wife….being present.
I’m not going to lie, if you choose to consciously LIVE your day, it will still go by quickly. You will still wonder where the day went. But the difference is that when you *blink* and the day is gone…you’ll have more memories and more genuine moments like this one of Jen & Dan.
Stay tuned for more from their amazing day.
